Spinach Cheese Swirls

A very belated Happy New Year to all my blog readers ! I am very glad to say V gifted me with a brand new Black and Decker Toaster Oven from BJ's store recently. It costs around $65. Now I can make and bake to my hearts content :) . Since the Super Bowl season is nearing, I thought, why not make something for that occasion. I have often noticed the Spinach-Cheese Swirls recipe on the Pepperidge Puff Pastry sheet box and always forgotten to make them though they always looked delicious. I decided today to make them for the first time in my toaster oven. And I should say they came out very well and tasted awesome ! That was a new kind of lunch I packed for V today. I made a second batch after he left for office today and enjoyed them with a hot cup of tea while watching my favorite show - NCIS ;) . It was then that I realized, this can be a good Super Bowl snack. Here is the recipe :

Spinach -Cheese Swirls

Ingredients:
  1. Spinach (frozen, thawed, and drained well) - 1 cup
  2. Puff Pastry sheet : 1 fold, thawed according to instructions on it's cover
  3. Any type of shredded cheese - 1/2 cup
  4. Parmesan cheese powder - 1/4 cup
  5. Onion chopped finely - 1
  6. Garlic minced / powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  7. Pepper and Salt to taste
  8. 1 egg beaten lightly with 1 tablespoon of water in small bowl

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degree F
  2. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and grease it lightly
  3. Combine the cheeses, onion , garlic with a fork in a medium bowl.
  4. Apply the egg wash on the puff pastry sheet
  5. Spread this mixture and the spinach on the pastry sheet. Salt and Pepper the filling
  6. Starting with the shortest side facing you, start rolling the pastry while applying the egg wash on each rolling side thus ensuring that both sides have the egg wash
  7. Cut the roll into 1/2" thickness
  8. Arrange them on the baking sheet and bake it for 15 minutes. Enjoy !
